excellent point, hadnt thought of that line of reasoning
I attribute much of it to MSFT monopoly
without more open standards, or simultaneous full development by a few leading computer companies, we are left with incomplete and self-serving development by that shithole in Redmond Washington

back in 1980, we had HP, IBM, DEC as the trio leaders
the development was more friendly from one generation to the next
backward compatibility was something to achieve, not capitalize upon with a captive customer base
if not handled properly, then lost base

MSFT is a fuching pig
maybe much of what you refer to is independent of Microshit
I doubt it, since they are omnipresent bastards

personally I had to go backwards to Windows2000 from WindowsNT for software support reasons
the result is tons of crappy shit I have to deal with now
like resetting keyboard functions
like slight changes to protocols
like certain network links not working the "right" way
like annoying little defaults all over the place
I hear you
