attitudes were very different in the early 20th century People used to value being educated and being fluent in several languages. Today many people view being educated and speaking several languages as sign of inferiority. They demand their children be educated in English only and learn only technical skills, like programming, which will pay off in the market. Their ignorant little heathen cannot even speak proper English, know nothing about history or the world around them (except perhaps whatever country the US is currently at war with). In lieu of an education in economics they mindlessly mouth the most current stories from the Los Angeles Time - a newspaper which fortunately for them is edited to be written at the 6th grade level. A pretty sad group of people. It seems most Americans wear their ignorance as a badge of honor and distinction.
