But Jacob, regime change also has costs and benefits associated with it. It cost 20,000 lives. But there are future benefits. Saddam had his equally ruthless sons lined up to succeed him. His 30 year regime cost no less than one million deaths, most during the Iran-Iraq war, which he instigated. With WMD, do you care to guess what future Saddam & Sons wars would have cost?

You may be surprised to learn that the military has ethicists, as do many other occupations.

Run a google search using "military ethics" or "military ethicist" and you may be pleasantly surprised. For "military ethics" you'll get over 4,500 hits, including links to centers which specialize in military ethics.
