<"Wandering the woods" is silly, of course. Hunters use blinds.>

The wandering happens while getting to and from the blind, while being badly hung-over.

And drinking is a required part of the ritual. Every hunting (and most fishing) stories I've ever heard, from a Texan or Alaskan, involved drinking. And they set the standard.

I used to still hunt, move slowly and use temporary hides. Drunk or hungover? That was 50 years ago. The hunters now want to be without scent and super alert.

Where I live the deer are a problem during the winter. One deer crosses the road and the next 32 don't look. We did have one big buck that chased my wife back into the house during the rut but that is rare. I saw him twice and he snorted and pawed the ground. Heavy 14 point rack and he had to be pushing 350 pounds live weight.

He might have a point about the hangovers - I don't hunt myself but knowing the fellows who do, he might just be right about that part.

They're the idiots that make hunters look bad. Anyone with any sense in their head doesn't mix alcohol and firearms. Anyone in my family would knock ya silly if you showed up to hunt drunk. Kristel's grandfather, who is a Master of the Hunt, would just as likely shoot the drunk as shoot the animal, on principle. ;)

"Wandering the woods" is silly, of course. Hunters use blinds.

Not all, especially in deer or bear hunting. Don't know how anyone else hunts in other states, but the hunters usually break into two parties to flush the game towards the taggers. Blinds and tree stands are prevalent in bow hunting, though. But that's because it's pretty hard to kill a deer with a bow unless you're literally on top of the thing.
