I don't think I misunderstood. The talents are what you are given in life. The master is obviously God.

The point is that those who are unproductive will lose all they have. Witness the tree that doesn't bear fruit.

The other thing would be that to whom much is given much is expected.

I like the parable because it involves trading even though that isn't the true purpose. The reaping where he sews not etc means that the master is a business man. After 26 I think he goes on to a different subject.
