WASHINGTON — With questions persisting about the failure to find unconventional weapons in Iraq, Senator John W. Warner, Republican of Virginia and chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said today that his panel would conduct hearings this month on the issue.

The House Intelligence Committee has already requested that the C.I.A. investigate whether prewar assessments of Iraq's weapons capacity were flawed.

In a letter to Mr. Bush today, Representative Henry Waxman, Democrat of California, said, "To date, you have offered no explanation as to why you and your most senior advisers made repeated allegations based on forged documents." Documents initially cited as evidence of an Iraqi nuclear program have since been determined to be fakes.
