I measure the worry of the powers that be by the presence or absence of the subject in the news. I don't see it in the news much

I don't know if you've noticed, but government officials cannot generally control what subject the news media is fixated on at any moment (though they may try). There are always many important stories that do not show up in the media or are buried in the back pages.

don't see the UN, which is the expert on these sites, being invited and actively engaged to see what's missing

There may be one or two other reasons for not wanting Hans Blix & co back on the job. They just sent 1400 people over, that sounds like worry to me.
