On the whole I would agree that we have been too soft on the "crazies", which Tom Friedman now says also. OTOH, I can just imagine what he would have said if Tommy Franks had come into Iraq like Douglas McArthur redux.

Saddam had thirty years to wreck the place, and the looters finished off what he missed. It's not an easy job and we'll make plenty of mistakes. The important thing is that we stick to it.
