tip, I totally believe in the power of free competition to bring down prices. However, you have to have enterprises of roughly equal size and power to make that the case. In the case of medical, you have the world's strongest trade union, the AMA, peddling an absolute necessity, on one side of the balance. On the other side, you have hundreds of insurance cos. struggling to make a buck on health insurance. The simple fact is, almost none of them can hit critical mass. So, their only alternative is to overcharge clients or get out of the game.

It is similar to having the defense cos. buy you services from the Pentagon. You're not going to get a great price.

That's why I always say that capitalism works for the majority of industries that are not important. If I think Starbucks is gouging me, I can buy coffee at Mickey D's.

But, for vital stuff, only socialism works.
