Don't most people watch the IDC numbers rather than Gartner?

What report are they "correcting". There was no _reported_ first report on the net.

That is one weird damn article.

It says: "HP is supposed to lead Gartner in the right direction. But according to the sources, the company was unresponsive to requests and in mid-merger chaos."

Not under reg fd they don't. HP CANNOT give to Gartner any advice that is not give to everyone simultaneously.

It sounds like Gartner want to blame every one but themselves. [Mid-merger chaos??] I know there was no public report that said ANYONE's Unix server sales were up. Linux is eating Unix and Solaris a new doodle.

Then, in an effort to mask their own ineptitude they confuse (total) all servers.

Remember, the implication here is that this is a secret report to Gartner paid clients. HPQ CANNOT give them ANY inside material advice.

I think Gartner is still riding on the coattails of that wonderful prediction about the year 2000 Crash that cost the taxpayers a billion dollars.

What I see is a big "disturbance in the force". What I see is a huge shift to industry standard architecture. What I see is a huge reduction in the need for Gartner-type consulting.

Other than that I have no problems with what seems to be a Register hit piece.
