Seems to me that when everyone agrees with the "smart move", the real answer must lie elsewhere

the real problem is not that the answer is wrong, but that the question is wrong. deflation isn't happening, and won't happen. crude oil with a 30-handle is not deflationary. natural gas at $6.30 is not deflationary. the USD losing 30% against the euro is not deflationary. double digit health care cost increases for years on end are not deflationary. housing prices up 20% year after year are not deflationary. interest on the long bond is nearing a 50-yr low. absent a deflation scenario which exists only as a fantasy in Greenspan's mind, long bonds look very risky to me. hence they have been dubbed "return-free risk".
