Friedman is dead on in this piece.

Scott,

How could Friedman write an Iraq article and find '710' reasons to attack, and not the 'OIL'? Perhaps he's looking at the world upside down due to his cranial-rectal inversion? Or is he just a simple LIAR?

******
I have to say, I completely disagree with you and Scott about the quality of Friedman's writhing. For him to fail to mention PNAC's role in fomenting the attack on Iraq, the irrationality of a Pox Americana and the deliberate deception of the American and British public to swindle them out of tax dollars to pay for a unnecessary war that is rewarding Halliburton and Bechtel with the spoils of the war is unconscionable.

All of Friedman's high toned chattter about 'building democracy' is just so much gasbagging. That's not even remotely what the Bush Crime Cabal is up to.

>>The real weapons that threaten us are the growing number of angry, humiliated young Arabs
and Muslims, who are produced by failed or failing Arab states — young people who hate America
more than they love life. Helping to build a decent Iraq as a model for others >>

Is Friedman really this naive ? He thinks we did this to build a decent Iraq for the Iraqis ? Good god !

Look at how we've all but abandoned Afghanistan (twice).

Look at how shrub Sr. abandoned the Kurds after Gulf War I

Look at how the US oil companies treat locals in Nigeria and in other resource colonization attempts

Look at all the no bid contracts given to US companies (friends of cheneyshrub) to rebuild an infrastructure they destroyed

Look at the growth in the numbers of angry young Muslims since we invaded.

Wait until the neocons start telling the truth about how much it will cost to occupy and rebuild Iraq.

Saddam's as bad as any other two dozen dictators around the world. But he had oil, so we went after Iraq, not the Congo.

This was done for the good of the American elite primarily. Watch what they do, not what they say.
