Interesting article.

Yes, it is. I have to restrain myself on that one. I read it, and want to say, "Bell Curve!", but that leads nowhere. The only obvious answer is to make sure the parents know they need to improve the kids study habits. If the kid is not cutting it on two hours a night, go to three.

I read Thomas Sowell's memoir, "A Personal Odyssey," a few years ago. He was brought up in a poor New York Area, joined the Marines, and after trying Howard, ended up at Harvard in the early 60s. He was failing there, and finally realized that he was going to have to study harder. He buckled down to spending his weekends in the Library, and made the Grades.

My son-in-law is of Japanese ancestry. His Father worked his way to a PHD in Chemistry, after growing up as a farm boy in Maui. He and his brother had to spend every night, from 1st grade on, at the kitchen table studying. With Father watching. He has just completed his JD after getting a EE, and is working for a top Law Firm. His brother has a PHD in Physics.

During my working years, I spent my evenings selling in people's homes. Every Asian family that I visited had the kids studying. Needless to say, in the other homes, the kids were watching MTV.
