Sam, I don't think it's retail. Take a look at intra-day 1-hour (or 15-minute) charts from yesterday. Many stocks reversed to the up-side at the same time (1:30 PM eastern).

So unless retail buyers act in synchrony (sort of like the AMAT Shorters Club), that suggests to me it is either index buying, or institutional basket buying.

Anyway, the labor stats, or Intel news can easily turn all those buyers into sellers or shorters in an instant. So we won't know whether it is the pent-house, or the dog-house till Friday morning.
