I remember that ... dim memory of being online at the time, too ... in those days Brad and Jeff were always tweaking something, continual improvement in the system, and more than a few harsh steps back at times ... zap and it wasn't there, or everything ran all rainbow colours, or the page shot way off to the side, lol ... Brad mentioned the other day the two-day shutdown, i remember that, my wife probably does too as the chores came near to getting caught up on

This was one of three sites that convinced me to get a computer .... always swore i wouldn't, completely tech-illiterate, figured my accountant and lawyer etc would have one each, but me never, what would be the point .... fairly aware at the time of the concept of technical analysis, but we always laughed at those people, called them 'chartists', with a snicker .... then a friend let me use his, showed me some sites on the net, interesting but nothing that really grabbed the attention, this would be early fall of '96

Second time i used his was to look up something, a trivia factoid, found it and then cruised around, found three sites - techstocks.com, stockwatch.com, and Adrian du Plessis' site, howenow.com or something ... that latter is gone now, that's sad, it was great .... anyway, i knew nothing of techstocks, only ever heard of maybe Microsoft, and it had had a big runup so who would ever buy that [!] .... no interest in them, but i tripped over the resource ghetto here, and discovered the give and take of talking about minerals juniors, in exactly the same way guys used to huddle around the Quotron machine in an old brokerage around here .... amazing, to see people from all over the planet able to post stuff to each other, on such specialised topics ..... so i bought a computer, got on the net, later in the fall of '96, lurked SI a lot but never joined until after that new year's

It is a good place .... even in the depths of corporate hell it went through, i remained passionately loyal to it as a community .... anything that helps it function is good, anything that harms it is evil, in my view .... don't care about the colours much, unless they offend and distract the eye like that dark blue bar of go2net's did ... i use pseudo-classic, they managed to salvage the legibility out of the Dryer model, at least .... they're pretty close to the original colours, which i remember thinking were kind of tasteless, like the makers didn't care anything of the art of it .... and i like that, because it's a message board, you just come here to read text, period, if you want to see the Mona Lisa you go to another site ... where the page takes a whole lot longer to load when you're on dial-up -g- .... anyway, absolute best of luck to Bob, the better he does, the better we will .... cheers
