I have brilliant people in my own family who have a tiny bit of trouble articulating a complete sentence, fully formed, as Athena sprang from the brow of Jupiter.

It used to be no problem for me to articulate full sentences without thought, myself, but these days I "bibbits and bobbits" a bit at times. ("Bibbits and bobbits" is a wonderful phrase a senior attorney I know uses to describe the process whereby one thrashes about, verbally, looking for the right words.) It's not always easy to find the words, especially when you are saying something original.

Essayists, e.g., Maureen Dowd, have the luxury of re-writing, re-phrasing, re-shaping, one's prose before it is made public.

Those of us who have to speak extemporaneously don't have that luxury.
