You position is surprising to me given your feelings about gov't but if that's what it is, then that's what it is.

Why should my support of smaller government make me jump to a conclusion that the government is lying every time someone accuses them of doing so?

Tim

Ted Re...What just kills me is that you all don't care about the lie

Forgive me for interrupting, but I just couldn't resist. It seems that all of the Dems hopes are resting upon this issue. While it could be a troublesome issue, I don't think it will mushroom into a major issue, unless democracy attempts in Iraq fail miserably. I, personally have stated many times here in the past, the WMD issue, was an excuse for starting the war, not the real reason. Likewise, the WMD issue, will be overshadowed by the other benefits, we have seen since the war. There are several reasons for this.

1. Saddam ran a crooked, cruel operation, and deserved to be ousted, just as the Taliban needed to be ousted. We will never get peace in the middle east, as long as leaders, who use violence to control their populations, stay in power. The justness of the ends, justify the means.

2, It is not just GW who has been claiming there were WMD in Irag. All countries, including France and Russia, thought Saddam had them. They differed upon how to control them. France, Russia, and Germany thought inspections and sanctions would be less costly than a war. Frankly, with or without, WMD, the costs of keeping up the inspections and the sanctions, would have been far greater than this war has cost us so far. And if Saddam didn't have WMD, all he had to do was make a reasonable effort to make his case. If Saddam didn't have WMD, why did he make every effort to conceal a nonexistent program.

3. The new roadmap for peace, was probably only made possible, by the Iraq victory, in that it changed the dynamics of the situation. It may be that the roadmap will fail, but, without the Iraq victory, there wouldn't have been a start.

4. Many of the lies told by the left, to stop the war, had far less basis, than the WMD scenario, and nobody really believes the far left all that much anymore. You try to proclaim that Gw has lost all credibility, but in reality, GW has far more credibilty, than his detractors. Frankly, the Dems, should have really put a muzzel upon Bird, and the rest of the liberal left, who tried to denigrate GW's flight to the aircraft carrier. That seemed to be a prime example of the sore losers, the left, and the dems have turned into; a bunch of rain upon your parade whiners, who can only criticize; not offer constructive solutions.

5. Finally, and not least, the dow is jumping because it looks like the economy is recovering. And a lot of credit will go to GW for getting the middle east under some semblance of control. A booming economy here, will make everyone forget about the costs of Iraq, and people will use the rebound to justify the war. As in, we never would have seen an uptick in consumer confidence, as long as the middle east, was hanging over our heads. Even the attacks in SA, didn't hurt consumer confidence that much, because, shortly we will have Iraq, to supply the oil that could be cut off, if SA falls into turmoil. So, rightly or wrongly, GW will get some credit for the improving economy, because at least some of the credit for the recovery goes to GW's efforts in trying to end the turmoil in the middle east.

For these reasons, I don't see the WMD issue hurting GW that much. Who cares, as long as the results are favorable.
