The retirement proposal would allow disabled veterans to collect retirement benefits as well as disability benefits, rather than subtracting one from the other. Congress has allowed full benefits only in the case of those who were severely disabled or who suffered disabilities for which the Purple Heart was awarded.

Interesting.
I received my purple heart 34 years ago and my disability rating 21 years ago.

After all that time, congress appears to be ready to give me the same benefit they have been receiving all along.

I will take the check...But I would have been just as happy if they paid their's back. Either way would have been okay with me. I was just interested in equal treatment.
