Hi Win Smith; Re: "Carl may have expected the war to be harder than it was ..."

Bullshit. I publicly stated many times that our armed forces would walk all over the Iraqis. I publicly stated that Saddam did not have much in the way of WMDs, and that even if he did, they wouldn't stop our troops from putting him out of power. My comments to this effect date back nearly 2 years.

What I said was that we would never ever win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, and that the occupation would be a disaster. I also stated that the government that took over Iraq after us would likely be a step backwards in the war against terror. But I never ever said that the war in Iraq would not be won quickly.

I think what you may be remembering is that I also stated that if there was a war with Iraq, we would be going in with more than 100,000 troops. That was in the context of a neocon argument that the job could (and would) be done with 25,000.
