OK, so you think Abu Nidal's existence in Iraq justifies our invasion and occupation.

No.. It is only one element that makes up an added bonus.

What justifies our invasion and occupation is the fact that for 12 years Saddam has obfuscated, hampered, deceived, and effectively did everything possible to avoid abiding by the UN cease fire stipulations from 1991 and every other resolution afterward. And this was apparent in 1995 when he was found to be hiding forbidden materials.

After that period of BS and getting caught red-handed, it was incumbent upon Saddam to meet at the terms of the inspection regime, not for UNMOVIC to root it out.

The entire UN, and their respective and collective intelligence services were convinced that Saddam had not abided by those binding resolutions. Even France knew he hadn't complied, but were merely playing for time in a vain attempt to drag this into the summer and hopefully maintain their hold on those oil concessions.

No one is going to miss Saddam's regime. And despite the current disarray in Iraq, I don't believe many Iraqis truly desire to go back to what existed before.

And on top of that, Iraq will likely prove the key to reconfiguring the entire mid-east and undermining the power of the Wahhabists in Saudi Arabia, where the REAL terrorists are bred. Once Iraqi oil is back online, dealing with Saudi Arabia should be much easier..

They will no longer be "untouchable" (given their oil production).
