Quick and Dirty Study on high yielders:

Parameters- Only SPX stocks with 5% or more yield (set of 21):

Over past 30 days, these stocks have outperformed the SPX by 11% vs. 8.2%.

If you take out the Real Estate Trusts (which are excluded from the tax benefits) it grows to 14.2% vs. 8.2%.

And you get nice dividend checks from them to boot. <g> Those weren't included in the return calculated- That would increase the outperformance by at least 0.5%.
