Ditto. I wonder if the level of animosity in the newsroom that leaked out was only the very tip of the iceberg.

Seth Mnookin was on NPR today and pointed out that when national desk editors who a month ago were under the iron grip of New York now say things in public like, "it doesn't matter whether Raines stays or goes, we have to concentrate on getting a paper out," then the news offices have become utterly ungovernable by Raines.

Of course, having the WaPo run cartoons where a NYT news stand is embellished with the slogans "All the News We Just Make Up and Phone In" and "Accurate, Shmacurate, At Least We're Diverse" is a sign that things are pretty bad outside the news offices too.
