James > Americans can help themselves and America by buying physical gold

I have to say, judging from today's performance, you may have a point. Besides gold and the Euro jumping, the USD took a smack.

We have see the very same thing here in SA but not with lower paid guys, but higher-paid "affirmatives". In the circumstances, many/most of those laid off have had no alternative but to try and start their own businesses of some kind and often very different from what they were trained to do.

I can understand your sentiment but it doesn't benefit these people to do such a thing even if, from an emotional point of view, they might like to. Neither a currency war nor a trade war is to anyone's advantage.

James, Marc Faber seems to agree with your assessment of the US and the East.

>>>I have less confidence that the purchase of the S&P 500 above 950 will produce satisfactory returns over the next five years. Still, I continue to like oil companies, whose earnings in the first quarter were superb, oil servicing companies and gold mining companies. Stocks like Royal Dutch (RD), Chevron Texaco (CVX), Exxon (XON), Woodside Petroleum (WPL AX), Schlumberger (SLB), Diamond Offshore (DO), Newmont Mining (NEM) and BHP Billiton (BHP) should be accumulated.<<<
