Years ago a cable channel was playing "Down by Law" about every day. Every time I surfed through the channels it was on. At first I hated it. I kept watching longer and longer swathes. After about a month I sat through the whole thing and found I loved it.

Weird how we relate to movies these days. There are movies I've taken years to see all through.

Yes, that is Benigni. "Life Is Beautiful" is his best film.

I will get back to the Malkovitch movie. I do want you to understand that I have read a lot of novels, even post- War novels, but I have tended to stay on the classics course: Henry Fielding, Jane Austen, Thackeray, Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Stendahl, Melville, Henry James, that sort of thing. I have read a lot of Saul Bellow, Kurt Vonnegut, E.L. Doctorow, C.S. Lewis; some Mailer, Vidal, and Updike; and even some Asimov, Zelazny, and one of Stephen King's books.........
