" Bush has killed our kids, destroyed our diplomacy, and is in the process of ruining our economy. My anger is directed at slowly changing the opinions of the fence sitters so that it becomes impossible for this fiasco to kill more people than it has to. I realize that it is going to take time to get the American public to force Bush to pull out of Iraq, but with the realization that Bush and Blair lied about WMDs, the time is slowly coming about. Re: "Did you think Saddam should be still in power and adding to the killing fields on a daily basis? " No, I don't think Saddam should still be in power. It's just that it's not our problem. Saddam was never a threat to us, as the lack of WMDs now makes clear. What Bush is doing is a threat to us, as he increases support for terrorism throughout the Arab world, including Iraq. As far as far distant places with dictatorial regimes, I say we should give money to the rebels, where it is diplomatically, militarily, economically and politically advantageous, but Iraq did not meet a single one of these criteria. Attacking Iraq has caused the world to hate us, as numerous public opinion surveys demonstrate. That means that our war against terror, which is a battle for "hearts and minds", has been hurt. Diplomatically, our relations with important, long standing allies has been severely hurt by our insane attack on Iraq. Militarily, we're now stuck in a country with a steadily increasing number of casualties. (Also note that our kill ratio has become inverted. More of us are now dying in combat than them.) Economically, the attack on Iraq is extremely expensive, doesn't have an end in sight, and comes at a time of exploding US budget deficits. Politically, the lying about the Iraqi WMD threat, and the ineffectual attempted military pacification of Iraq will come to haunt the Republican party for decades. The whole thing is a fiasco from one end to the other. As far as sympathy for the poor, downtrodden Iraqi people, well tough titty for 'em. And who is it that you are feeling sorry for anyway? This is the most heavily armed populace in the world. Everybody's got a gun. If they had wanted to get rid of Saddam they would have. Look at what is happening now. Half the population owns a machine gun, rocket launchers are sold in stores, and they're using them to gun down our soldiers. Doesn't sound to me like the Iraqis needed any help to get rid of Saddam. Hell, doesn't sound to me like the Iraqis need any help to get rid of the US. Let me put it to you this way. You know for a fact now, that when the Administration (and its media allies) said that they knew that the Iraqis had WMDs they were lying, or at least mistaken. Okay. So why should you believe the Administration when it says that the Iraqi people wanted us to bomb the bejesus out of them and turn their country into a California sized copy of the movie "Mad Max"? It's clear that the administration lied about that, too, or at least was mistaken about it. By the way, the best evidence that the administration was truly mistaken about the reception US troops would get in Iraq is in the failure to adequately plan against the convoy ambushes. Basically, the administration is so stupid, that they believe their own BS. The prewar concept that the Iraqi people were unable to get rid of Saddam because they were powerless, is now shown to be another big lie. Most people haven't clued in on this obvious fact yet, but then again, it's taken most people until now to clue into the fact that Saddam got rid of his WMDs. Forget about what the lunatic die-hards around here say. Quoting "National Review" to show that Bush was right is a complete waste of time. National Review has never failed to support any Republican over anything. Instead, go pick up a copy of your local more or less middle of the road newspaper, and see what the editorial pages are saying about Bush's WMD lies. These are the swing voters. -- Carl
