it would be great for oracle, but terrible for people who work at psft.

To make this work, oracle will need to dump their apps division and leave psft alone as an R&D facility, then merge the sales side of the business under oracle. I suspect they will do this. I think Oracle customers are demanding better products and Oracle has tried everything (well everything that doesn't involve a culture change of course which is the whole issue)- anyway this is the way out for oracle. I don't believe Conway approached Larry to merge like he was saying this am on sqawkbox. I think Conway knows Ellison and there is always chatter like this but no real chance psft wanted to be bought by orcl.

If this merger goes through then sebl becomes more attractive as an investment too. This is good for software overall I'd say. If you live in the bay area you probably know things are finally waking up.
