Now that the new database server is up and running (but not doing any work yet), the contractors say they're gonna put some serious work into things (first priority -- see if they can identify/fix the performance problem) this weekend, including pulling an all-nighter tonight.

I was invited to join them, but declined. Major cold or flu or something. The whole "death warmed over" thing.

I doubt they can really identify the source of a performance problem right now while the site's under a light load, but if PM insertions are still taking a long time, then maybe they can address that and if they get it fixed, everything else will run better.
