Art World: Are symphony orchestras dodos?
"The Florida Philharmonic Orchestra is the latest to suspend operations, bringing to five the number of orchestras that have closed down in the past seven months, according to the American Symphony Orchestra League.

The other failed orchestras are the San Jose Symphony, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Colorado Springs Symphony, and the San Antonio Symphony."

The symphonies missed a great opportunity to blame illegal music downloading for their economic decline. ;)

Dennis,

It still amazes me that the music industry insisted the more than doubling of prices during the transition from vinyl to CD was needed to cover the costs of material, packaging, producing and distributing a new high tech inventory for consumers. Now that those extraordinary costs are or could be a thing of the past the industry does not want to let go of the massive profits which somehow appeared in their laps. Apple is proof that a new paradigm could work if the powers that be choose to think outside the box. What we have now is prohibition thinking.
