Those who are observant are real
I would disagree, although there is plenty of fudge factor in the word observant. There is a thin line between observant and fanatic. There is also just a natural expansion of tradition through the ages until different groups, each being quite observant, develop different core beliefs. The obvious example here is the 3 main branches of the Christians. Less obvious was branches of Judism, since some like the sephardic were nearly wiped out, and others like the Lemba are isolated. It would seem that the Moslems are the most observant of all and yet constantly disagree over which of the Sunni, Sufi, Shia, or Ahmaddis are folling the correct tradition.
