SR,

Unlike you, I have no strong feelings one way or another on the abortion issue. I tend to agree with the joke about the Jewish mother, who when asked at what age does the fetus become vital, quipped "Just as soon as he graduates from medical school."

The last time I looked, there are plenty of human beings on this planet. Sparing a potential mother the burden of an unwanted child and a life of diminished standards of living seems to me to be just as valid a concern as the the obsession that many hold w/r/t the abortion issue, and saving every possible future human being. The overwhelming fact of the matter is that we have no shortage of humans on the planet, and in fact the opposite may be the case.

I simply cannot fathom the mindset that would elevate the rights of the unborn over those of a fully sentient and functioning adult engaged in an act of free will.

YMMV. :)

OTOH, we are in 100% agreement about Bush. He has screwed us all. Excepting Halliburton and Bechtel, of course. <g>
