That would certainly cut down on the thread bloat, if posters were only allowed to express an opinion on events in places where they have lived for years.

What is "beyond doubt" about Savarkar, is that he was a militant Hindu nationalist. There was not enough evidence to convict him of Gandhi's murder. The fact that he is being rehabilitated, by the present government, says a lot about how much India's politics has changed. Gandhi's ideas dominated India from the 1920s, into the 1970s. It is an incredibly sad tragedy, that his methods, his ideas, are being replaced by those of the BJP.

When India achieved independence, Gandhi said that his 30-year campaign had failed, since Hindus and Muslims couldn't coexist, and violently split into 2 (now 3) separate nations. The failure continues, and deepens.

Why dont you spend a few years there, and then see if your Hindu/Muslim slant is valid ?

Living in a place, in itself, does not provide sufficient basis to form an opinion. I spent a number of years in Manila, very near a neighborhood with a large concentration of Muslims. They got along quite well with their Christian neighbors. If I'd decided on the basis of that observation that there was no real problem between Muslims and Christians in the Philippines, that decision would not have been very useful, since it would not take into account the situation in other parts of the country.

If you are so convinced that local knowledge is superior, why don't you ask some Gujarat Muslims what they think of the situation?
