Any special grounds for saying that? Unless I have very specific reason for believing otherwise, I'll have to say I think he wrote exactly what he meant. I think the Dems are on their way from minority party to minor party. That would be a national disaster. I don't say that because I care for the Democratic Party: I dislike the Democrats almost as much as I dislike the Republicans, and if the Democrats were in power that equation would be reversed. The ideologies are insignificant: a country without a viable opposition party is not destined to remain a democracy for long. They are in the control of the anti-war hard left, and are probably going to give us that kind of National Candidate. I assume, of course, that you recognize that opposition to the war, or at least to the manner in which the war was undertaken, is by no means limited to the hard left. I hope the Democrats are smart enough to reverse the recent trend toward polarization and go with a moderate candidate. That wouldn't assure victory, but it would do the nation a service. I hope that when Bush's time is up the Republicans do the same. I think it's time to put the ideologues of all stripes out to pasture and rediscover the center. This flirts with OT, of course, but not entirely. For the first time in many years, foreign policy will be a major issue in this campaign, and to the extent to which it impacts foreign policy, the campaign will be a reasonable item for discussion here. That's IMO, of course. Ken will rule, and I will obey....
