< prices can rise in the absence of wage demands >

That was my point, along with MO that wage increases would lag inflation even if the fed just started handing out money right now. It would take some time before inflationary expectations worked their way down to wages. So IMO, if inflation is on the horizon or not, the wage picture isn't worth much as a predictor at this point... we may differ there.

<certain segments suffering (or benefiting depending on your point of view) from falling prices and lessening wage demands while other parts of the economy are experiencing rising prices and rising wage demands. This is why few can agree as to whether the rate of inflation is accelerating or declining.>

Right, lots of argument as to direction and extent of inflation/ prices.

Actually I pretty much agree with this but would add that the cacophony of wouldn't be complaining about rising healthcare, is partly generated by perception. I work a lot from home and had two business land lines and a cell at home plus two high speed net connections, one DSL and one cable. I turfed two land lines and will be soon turfing the cable high speed (and doubling my DSL speed) all for cost savings. These costs haven't gone up and my income hasn't gone down but the uncertainty out there has certainly affected my perception of what is expensive.
