Don, there is one difference. This year none of the big guns in the semi equipment industry have noted anything that would be positive about the second half. Last year they were fairly upbeat about prospects. This year they have been much less so and yet the market has rallied at least for a month longer than in 2002. RtS

We can run a little comparison on the prognostications of the analysts over the next few weeks/months by reconstructing and updating some tables I was maintaining from last year about this time. It is a summary snapshot of analyst estimates of 12 month price performance and changes in analyst recommendations up/down for the past 4 weeks. Obviously with the downgrades today, the numbers in those columns will change rapidly. Note that during the past 4 weeks the upgrades(29) are higher than the downgrades(24). That is about to change.
