my prediction is that if WMD don't turn up reasonably soon, Tenet (remember, he's a Clinton holdover) is taking the fall and Bush will steamroller on.

I really believe they are in Syria.. It only makes sense to me since Saddam was paying off Syria to the tune of a $1 Billion a year in oil. And it begs the question of what he received in return for such a substantial chunk of "money".

And I think the Bush administration knows it too...

But that will raise a seriously difficult question. If it becomes public knowledge that Syria is holding these weapons, then Israel will go nuts (IMO). Thus, the question is what Assad wants in return for coughing them up (discreetly), or suddenly revealing that they were being "safeguarded" from the US so that Syria could destroy them properly.

And that isn't going to happen until the US and Syria are able to play "nice-nice" to a sufficient level that Assad receives some promise of financial aid.

I don't seriously hold out much belief that Iran took charge of them..
