I finally had a chance to set up the kid's telescope and
look at an almost full moon with them. They had a thrill seeing the
craters. (Especially the ones near the top and bottom that
seemed to be highlighted with shadow.) So did my wife, my
mother-in-law, and myself.

I think it was the first time any of us had seen the moon
that closely. The telescope has a max or something like
550x magnification.

Unfortunately as soon as the sky seemed to become dark
enough to look at the stars and planets the clouds rolled
in. It seems that it is going to be a real challenge to
see the planets at a high magnification. The scope's
adjustment knobs aren't of the best quality and tend to
move easily. Especially when a six year old grabs hold of
it. But at least I have the aiming scope adjusted fairly
well to help find the target.

Unfortunately it appears we are in for a few more days of
rain.
