Yesterday afternoon they had an interesting piece on McNeil/Lehrer (on PBS) about the Pfc Jessica Lynch story. Turns out it was all bogus.

1)She was never shot
2)She was never stabbed
3)She did have a broken leg and ankle, etc. which looked more like a person in a real bad accident of some kind
4)The stuff about firing her weapon 'til she was out of ammo and killing Iraqis all around her doesn't appear to be legit
5)The memory loss she is supposed to have was contradicted by her parents who they showed saying her memory is the same as when she left West Virgina
6)Rumsfeld who said she was "rescued from SOME hospital" was misleading as it was actually one of the best hospitals in the country
7)There was an attempt by the hospital personal to drive her in an ambulance to a US checkpoint but they came under US fire and turned back
8)Their was no firefight between our commandos and seals and any "captors", etc. as there was ZERO opposition at the hospital and the US knew that
9)The Iraqi doctors did a great job of caring for her and attending to her needs and were shocked to hear the BS about her condition (gunshot & stab wounds, etc.) and rescue - as they had been monitoring her, neurologically, etc. for her injuries and had contacted the US to have them come get her in the first place
10)The US filmed the whole thing - but one rational is if they show the whole thing publically then our enemies will see how we handle rescues (our procedures, etc.) and we need that to remain secret, blah, blah, blah
11)Jessica was good "tv" (i.e., we need a hero, cute kid, etc.)
12) Other country papers have been on the story and got on it actually quite quickly (NZ, AUS, etc.) but it hasn't gotten all that much play over here
13)Rumsfeld believes "misinformation" or "information" is important to modern war - guess he figured no one would ever find out

This kind of crap sure smells bad - surely there are many acts of bravery and courage in war - no friggin' excuse for manufacturing it to manipulate the public - on the other hand, I guess it probably has happened many times in the past but it just never comes to light

It will be interesting to see what Jessica says when she is finally allowed to talk by the military and Pentagon - will she be a good little soldier?
