The Joker

In many elections there is a Joker – a wild card. Rarely does the Joker get nominated much less elected. But the Joker can have a profound influence on who does. In ’68, the Joker was McCarthy, in ’92, Perrot. In the 2000 election, both McCain and Nader played a joker role. While it’s still early, I’m predicting that the biggest joker in the current deck is Howard Dean. I don’t know if he will win the nomination, but he’ll make it a race. If by chance, he wins the nomination, Bush & Co. will be in for a tumultuous campaign.

Give’um hell Howard.

lurqer,

Current stat on U.S. casualties in Iraq are ~135 enemy fire and 70 friendly fire. Over 200 dead so far. The run rate is somewhere between 7-9 new deaths per week. The Sunnis north of Baghdad may cause an acceleration in this rate as they organize and begin to set more intricate traps for the G.I.s

There is no question any longer in anyone's mind (except the truly witless) that this is a 'liberation'. All sides in Iraq clearly understand this is a a hostile occupation.

I don't know Lurq -

If I were managing a campaign against the Repubs, I'd start off with a recording of the stage at the 2000 Repub convention. Show the different "ethnic" groups performing for the cameras (b/c that's all it was) with the African American gospel finale. As you moved through those images, interpose the legislation and appointments made negatively affecting those groups that's happened in the interim. Are you better off now?

Seems like a slam dunk to me.
