Hamas is making sure that the attacks by them on Israel are big enough that Sharon has no choice but to respond. This gives the Euros and the Arabs the opportunity to put it on the Israelis.

I see no way out but for Bush to use the CIA, et al to build up a Pal force big enough to take on Hamas. But would Abbas use it? Would Arafat let him? It would obviously take a civil war to stop Hamas, et al, at this point. And Abbas is afraid he would lose it.

Of course, our pro-palestinian crowd here will insist that the Israelis could solve it by going pacifist. Just turn the other cheek and pull out of the West Bank. Yeah. Sure.

Sharon would have to go in with really massive force. We will not let him.

>>The first blow was Hamas against Israeli soldiers<<

No, the first blow after the Aqaba talks was Israel killing two Hamas members in the West Bank. Then Hamas responded by killing the four soldiers (and losing three). Then Israel tried to kill the Hamas leader and killed two civilian bystanders instead, etc.
