Was looking for a pullback, any thoughts for an entry? Russell 2000's changes on tap By Bambi Francisco, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 10:57 AM ET June 13, 2003 SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- It's Friday the 13th, time to shuffle the deck over at the Frank Russell Company. At the close, the Russell indexes will be reconstituted with fresh names -- like many tiny Internet companies that had been forgotten in the last two years. Having found a footing in the last nine months with the return of online advertising and costs under control, Internet companies that have survived hope a nod from Russell will give them added recognition. The June 13 list is a preliminary posting of names of stocks to be included in Russell's family of 21 U.S. indexes. The Russell 2000 additions and deletions provide the most opportunity for trades, according to Bear Stearns analyst Wing Chow. New additions to the Russell 2000 show an average of 39 days of demand as stock buyers snap them up. Even though many investors have been adding shares of potential candidates since May, Chow says that there is some impact in June, as well. Chow estimates that there will be 284 stocks added to the Russell 2000. Merrill Lynch released a report in late May with a list of candidates and a corresponding probability of being included in the Russell 2000 . Since that time, shares of the candidates have risen heartily in anticipation of being included. Pumatech (PUMA: news, chart, profile) has an 80 percent probability, according to the Merrill report. The probability of TheStreet.com (TSCM: news, chart, profile) being included is 53 percent. MarketWatch.com (MKTW: news, chart, profile), the publisher of this report, has a probability of 81 percent. Ask Jeeves (ASKJ: news, chart, profile), FindWhat.com (FWHT: news, chart, profile) and E-Loan (EELN: news, chart, profile) have probabilities of 100 percent.FindWhat shares were under pressure Friday after First Albany lowered its rating to a "buy" from a "strong buy" due to valuation concerns and the upcoming release of the lock-up that bound insiders from selling shares.
