one-child policy has only been adopted in big cities in China strictly. In rural areas, even if next door to Beijing, the capital, you can hardly see any family with only one kid<g> But someday, after all the surplus labor, especially the rural surplus labor are absorbed, then China may have labor shortage. But then the only thing the gov. needs to do is to let people have as many as children as they want, that sure will solve the problem<g>

I tell Jay he doens't believe me. Demographics will demolish Japan. Here's why:

The daughters of the babyboomers -born end of 60's and early 70's have just passed their prime child bearing age. Birth rate today reached 1.32 / woman.

Need 2.1 just for replenishment. While duirng this short period there is a lot of money in Japan not being consumed by people below 15 years of age, thus giving a sense of wealth, the split old/young is going to work against Japan.
