folks used to be guided by simple principles in economic matters -- and for economics -- simple principles are all you need for the most part.

The institutions of "higher learning" have done so much damage to the study of economics -- it is very sad.

No, not everything is intuitive or straightforward, but a lot of it is, and with a system that is based upon restricting the powers of government so as to allow the market economy to work -- the participants do not have to know all that much to derive the highest benefits.

But much of the complications and complexity of economics derives from government meddling and intervention to favor one group over another.

This idea of trying to control prices via money supply mngment has been, perhaps, the most damaging idea of the last century when put together with government debt finance without limit. Second to this is the awful income tax.
