Schaeffer: "The Semiconductor HOLDRs Trust (SMH: sentiment, chart, options) was very active on the put side yesterday. There were a total of 32,761 puts traded yesterday; this is 2.2 times the average daily put volume. The biggest contributor to this activity was the June 30 put, which saw 17,635 contracts change hands. Of this activity, 13,809 contracts translated in to new positions. However, the second most active put was the June 27.50, which had volume of 7,944. The net change to open interest on the 27.50 strike was a decrease of 5,846 contracts. The SOIR for the SMH is at an annual high currently."
