An advantage of tax cuts at times when the economy is not doing well is the short term direct benefit they provide to the economy. But the main advantages of tax cuts are 1 - That they let people keep more of their own money,

Advantage to whom? The Japanese have the greatest personal savings rate in the world and they have had one of the longest recessions in history.

and 2 - The long term benefit of increased investment and more efficient use of resources when the investments are made to satisfy market demand, rather then having the money spent to satisfy political demands.

What makes you think people will invest with their tax cut monies? In recession, people are worried and tend to stash their free money ala the Japanese. Even corporations retrench during a recession. Only gov't can afford to spend its way out of a recession.

"Tax cuts stimulate demand and move us out of a recession" is just another conservative lie intended to keep conservatives' money in their own pockets. It follows the very popular adage among conservatives: a fool and his money are soon parted.
