He says this was in his younger, more naive, days. The impression his answer gives, however, is that he was himself one of those long haired dirty hippies. He will have to speak to that himself. :-)

"...nor would he partake of spiked drinks. Uh, I'll have to take the fifth on that one. Maybe I'd even have to take it a lot. But for the record let me say that I would never knowingly deceive anyone about something like that and I only knew about the bartender's behavior after the fact. It was a pretty free stylin' bar so there would have to be warnings covering every inch of the place and in very small font to cover all circumstances. Later in life I mellowed to a more rural life style and eventually became a strict tea toter and have remained so for many years now.
