COMS is one of those companies that has no niche now, sort of a techland Kmart, dwarfed by CSCO and others as Kmart is dwarfed and rendered irrelevant by Wal-Mart and Target. (Despite my overall optimism on things, I predict Kmart goes bankrupt again within 2 to 3 years) Companies like COMS will eventually be liquidated in some manner, they have too much cash to go bankrupt, but unless they invent some radical new product to give them a niche again, the intellectual talent will eventually leave for greener pastures and they will keep having to lay off the rest of their staff. I would guess that at a company with 4600 employees and no profits, they could lay off a lot more and not miss them operationally, still you never like to see anyone lose their job involuntarily, hopefully they will be able to find new jobs quickly and without too much upheaval to their lives.
