If you won't accept Gorbachev's own words I don't know what evidence could be provided for you that you would accept. Tim, my God, you can't be that dense. Gorbachev would never say he was turning Russia into another democracy because he would fear for his head. The stuff that is quoted is when Russia was still a dictatorship and his reforms were extraordinarily controversial. There are still old people who want the Soviet Union back. What he did was incredibly daring and risky, and he got canned for it. ted
