played one once on a cruise ship.
didn't make it past the first round.
was playing the way i normally would at a blackjack table.
what i learned was, you can't play conservatively.
most of the guys who won the first rounds basically bet the full amount an then let it ride, then played conservatively later.

statistically, with enough players playing that way, some are gonna wind up getting the streak they need to take a big lead early in the tournament.

the tournament is free. you might as well go balls out. maybe bet half ($250) in the first hand, which will allow you the opportunity to double down, and you won't have the embarassment of losing all your funny money in the first hand.
