While I'd be more inclined to believe that they'll need to support IA32, I think you're right that if we don't hear by September, we probably won't hear about it at all.

Maybe I didn't write it clearly. I think Intel will have a chip that will be full featured 32 bit performance based on either P4 or Banias core + Itanium core.

On Yamhill, I think the probability that that is Intel's desktop strategy is decreasing every day. If more time is wasted without Intel vapor / FUD about intel's 64 bit extension to IA-32, then Intle will be left with only 2 options - AMD64 instruction set (unlikely) and Itanium instruction set.
