<<<take it from an academically-trained>>>

I've never noticed that the so called "academically trained" prove to be more credible sources of information than persons of the other sort. The "academically trained" have proven the Earth is flat and that manned flight is impossible. Most academics treat knowledge as their private religion, and without that religion, the majority of them couldn't qualify for a job driving a wheelbarrow.

<<<Now, what reliable source of information are you utilizing to come to the conclusion that "Iraqi prisoners [are] being tortured" by U.S. troops?>>>

Is English your second language? Did I make that claim? On the other hand, Iraqi prisoners certainly are not being allowed to have an attorney present during questioning, and the interrogation techniques are certainly not being observed and reported by independent third parties. Can you provide any independent documentation from ANY source that Iraqi prisoners are NOT being tortured?

<<<On the other hand, assertions - such as that some of these Generals are "bought and paid for" - would require some evidence backing them.>>>

First of all, I didn't say "some". All Generals are bought and paid for. It's part of their job description. Presidents boss the Generals, and Generals don't get to be Generals except through being politically acceptable and obedient to Presidents. A General parroting the straight party line of "I believe there are WMDs and we'll find 'em.", is NOT independent confirmation of the President saying, "I believe there are WMDs and we'll find 'em.". That's the magic of propaganda, the more people willing to tell the same lie, the more believable the lie sounds, especially if the person repeating the lie may be passed off as some sort of expert on the subject.

<<<Opinions, in and of themselves, don't require evidence.>>>

You have an amazing grasp of the obvious. Unfortunately, as I pointed out, opinions presented as news have propaganda value. The issue is having an "opinion" that thousands of innocent people should be murdered does not justify murdering thousands of innocent people. Blowing the arms off children is NOT the sort of thing a mentally stable person does on a hunch.

You appear to have a problem telling the difference between opinionated and criminally insane.
